2024 Lifeguard Training Courses
Fall Lifeguard Course - Sundays - 11am-5pm - September 22, September 29 & October 6

There are 3 main components to the lifeguard training course:
Swimming & Skills Test
Must be completed at least one week prior to class start date

Skills Test Components
Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence: Jump into the water, submerge, resurface swim 150 yards (using the front crawl breaststroke or a combination of both), maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs, then swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
Complete a timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds by starting in the water, swimming 20 yards, surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 to 12 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point holding the object at the surface with both hands, exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
Once the Swimming & Skills Test has been completed, the Lifeguard Instructor will send the info to register for the class on the Red Cross website and the online learning portion of the course can be started.
Online Learning
Approximately 6 hours of videos, scenarios, and practice questions.
Must be completed by the start of in-person classes
In-Person Classes
Must attend all 3 in-person classes for your session
Lifeguard Class - Candidate Requirements
Complete all online coursework and lessons on Red Cross Website (approx 6 hours)
Attend all in-person training dates and times
Pass Red Cross Lifeguard written test and physical skills test

The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. The course content and activities of the class will prepare participants to make appropriate decisions about the care to provide in an aquatic medical emergency.
American Red Cross training makes learning fun and easy. Through classroom learning, on-line learning and hands-on practice, you'll learn:
Surveillance skills to help recognize and prevent injuries
Rescue skills - in the water and on land
First aid training
CPR for the professional rescuer
How to help during an emergency and how to prepare for any emergency
Professional lifeguard responsibilities like interacting with the public and addressing uncooperative patrons
